NEVER Trust Yourself… You Are Your Own WORST Enemy!!

Here’s the deal…

If you have EVER set a goal for yourself or even PROMISED yourself that you would do something, but you STILL did not accomplish it, you are a victim of your own worst enemy (yourself)…

NEVER EEEEEEEVER Trust Yourself!!

I realized this when I started making promises to myself, and I still didn’t follow through with them… UNTIL

I started promising my Success Coach… Thats’ when the real magic happened, because I was no longer holding myself accountable (which I think is almost impossible), and someone else was looking over my shoulder, holding me accountable!

And I don’t just mean holding me accountable like “oh yeah, you better do this”, I mean literally making me email every single day with an update on what I did for the day, and sending the proof to all my work — NO EXCUSES! And if I don’t do what I said I would do, I will lose points!!

FYI, the point system I speak of is a way to motivate me as a performer to follow through with the promises I set out for myself… It helps a lot, because nobody likes losing points… I’ll talk about that on a future post. Wink

Why do you Suck at Holding Yourself Accountable?

I don’t know the exact science behind it, but I believe it has something to do with the way we were raised… We all grew up following orders from other people, and we’ve never really followed our own orders. We didn’t tell ourselves “Go to school!” or “Do your homework” (at least I didn’t lol).

Our elders told us to do that… And the only reason we actually did it was because they were watching us to make sure that we did it! And if we disobeyed, there was always a consequence (usually a spanking — depending on your time era of course).

If it were up to me, growing up, I probably wouldn’t even have gone to school everyday… Some days I just felt like sleeping in late, playing video games, or rocking out with my friends… But because my mother was holding me accountable every morning, and the government made it a LAW that I can either go to school or pay a truancy ticket, I went everyday I could.

Naturally, people just want to do what you feel like doing… But if you do not have the resources you need to do that yet, you need to work towards that goal by doing things that you might not feel like doing… But if you don’t feel like working, you’ll end up doing nothing.

And that’s when the “excuses” come in…

“I’ll do it later”

“I don’t need to do it right now”

“This can wait”

“I’ll do it as soon as I finish watching The Office”… then “Oh! Better Off Ted is on! I’ll work after this episode”

“My toe is hurting, so I can’t write that report”

And they just keep getting more & more clever… Who are you fooling? NOBODY!! You’re NEVER going to do it!!

The only reason you can get away with these ridiculous excuses, is because you choose to let yourself get away with them! And it’s ALWAYS going to be that way! Unless you…

Now, Here’s the Solution:

Just find someone who will be YOUR Success Coach! Someone you can talk to once a week for just a few minutes at a time about your action plan… Someone who you can email once a day with the success you have accomplished for that day, and the stuff you did NOT follow through with…

And they will NOT accept any crappy excuses, or reasons why you didn’t do what you said you would do… You either do it or you don’t — no excuses or reasons why… ONLY success!

Every week, you two can go over your plan & fix any little glitches in your system to configure your action plan in a way that makes more sense & fits your needs…

That’s what any real coach should do for you… If you know a Success Coach who can help you, get in touch with him or her & ask them if they can do you this favor… I promise, you’ll be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL you did!!

And if you don’t know anyone, you can always count on me. Wink I am a consultant for some big companies & entrepreneurs, but I also COACH people & will hold you accountable to your promises with no excuses or reasons why you “didn’t”. Wink

You can receive a 15 minute consultation with me ($100 value) at no cost, by filling out this form below:

What kind of experience have you had with your own coach? And holding yourself accountable vs. having someone else hold you accountable?

I hope this post taught you a lot! If you know anyone who would benefit from it, please share with them! They’ll be happy you did! Wink

P.S. I want to do everything in my power to help you succeed & live your dreams!! I say that all the time because I really mean it! So if you need me to hold you accountable, please don’t hesitate to ask!!

But you absolutely NEED someone to start holding you accountable RIGHT NOW!! You NEED a Success Coach starting NOW!! Making promises to yourself is NOT enough!

  1. You are so right Omar.

Having a Coach is one of the best things that I ever did. She helped me to get unstuck when I first started out. I could not break through that $5,000/month income barrier.

She said, “Terry, for things to change, you must change. For things to get better you must get better.”

I did change and blew by that barrier.

    Thanks for you leadership!

    Terry

I know I’m right, Terry! Cool

But seriously, putting my ego aside… THANK YOU for your words of wisdom buddy!! You are actually one of the leaders I’ve always looked up to & I’ve learned a lot from you. So I really appreciate you sharing that!

It’s interesting — I realize that we both have/had female coaches, and a lot of my male friends have female coaches too. Smile I don’t know what it is, but I think there’s just something about having a female tell me what to do & hold me accountable, makes me work EXTRA hard to make sure I do it… Like I’m trying to impress her or something. lol. I don’t know — OK I’ll stop now.

      You’re awesome, Terry! Thanks again!!

      ~Omar

I like having multiple success coaches/mentors/teachers. I learn better like that somehow.

I learned a lot from both Terry and Omar. One reinforces the other. Life is game of chess. Picking which piece(s) to move. There’s so many ways to look at life. My inspiration comes from Japanese Anime, video games, board games, TV shows etc. Terry has this skill, Omar has that… I have something to offer too.

    • Omar Briones says:

      Thanks, Dan!

I’m glad you’re digging my post. Smile

Whatever skill you have, I’m going to show you how
to share it with the world, and turn it into a business! Wink

      Terry’s awesome! I’m glad you’re in the right crowd…
Keep yourself surrounded by people like Terry, little by
little success will rub onto you.

      Keep rocking brotha!

      ~Omar
